🎯
Hot Seat Advice
One student, one hot seat, endless suggestions!
15 min ▾
📋 HOW TO PLAY
1One student sits with their back to the board — this is the Hot Seat!
2Teacher writes a situation on the board (e.g. "My friend never sleeps enough").
3Teams race to give advice using a correct modal: Should / Must / Ought to / Had better / Could.
4First team to shout a perfect sentence wins a point. Hot Seat student judges if it makes sense!
5Rotate the Hot Seat every 2 rounds.
💡 TEACHER TIP: Use dramatic music and a countdown timer. Let the Hot Seat student earn a bonus point if their own team wins!
EXAMPLE: Board says "My friend eats junk food every day." → Team shouts: "You had better change your diet — you'll get sick!" ✅
🏃
Run & Write Relay
Fastest team with perfect grammar wins!
20 min ▾
📋 HOW TO PLAY
1Teams line up at the back. Whiteboard is at the front.
2Teacher reveals a situation card (use the Relay Cards tab — only you see what's coming next!).
3First player from each team sprints to the board and writes a suggestion or advice sentence.
4Teacher marks it: ✅ correct = 1 point. ❌ wrong = player must erase and fix before returning.
5Next player runs when their teammate returns. First team with 5 correct wins the round!
💡 TEACHER TIP: Use the Relay Cards tab on YOUR phone/screen — it reveals one card at a time so students can't read ahead. Award bonus points for creativity!
EXAMPLE: Situation: "You never exercise." → Written: "Why don't we go for a run every morning?" ✅
🎭
Advice Drama Duel
Act it, say it, win it!
20 min ▾
📋 HOW TO PLAY
1Two teams face off. Each secretly receives a problem scenario card from the teacher.
2Team A silently acts out their problem (charades-style) for 30 seconds.
3Team B must identify the problem AND give advice using correct grammar.
4Teacher + class vote: correct grammar? Logical advice? Up to 2 points per round.
5Teams swap. Best of 5 rounds wins!
💡 TEACHER TIP: Great scenario ideas: student falling asleep, someone terrified of dogs, a reckless driver, a shopaholic. Get dramatic — ham it up!
EXAMPLE: Team acts out: falling asleep at desk → "You should get more sleep!" or "How about going to bed earlier?" ✅
🎲
Suggestion Roulette
Spin the wheel. No excuses, only perfect English!
15 min ▾
📋 HOW TO PLAY
1Teacher picks: a STRUCTURE + a SITUATION (e.g. "Let's" + "It's getting dark").
2Structures: Let's / You Should / We'd Better / Why Don't We / How About + gerund.
3Each team has 20 seconds to build a sentence using THAT structure for THAT situation.
4Teams write on mini-whiteboards or shout out loud. Points for speed AND accuracy.
5Double points if team adds a reason clause!
💡 TEACHER TIP: Use an online spinner projected on screen! "We'd better leave now OR WE'LL BE LATE" earns the double-point bonus.
EXAMPLE: Spin → "We'd Better" + "It's getting dark outside." → "We'd better leave now or we'll be late!" ✅
🗣️
Subjunctive Showdown
That clause? That's worth big points!
20 min ▾
📋 HOW TO PLAY
1Each team elects a Spokesperson for each round.
2Teacher gives a scenario: "Your friend wants to get healthy."
3Spokesperson advises using: Suggest / Recommend / Insist + THAT + base verb (subjunctive).
4Correct structure = 1 pt. Correct subjunctive form (no -s, no "to") = bonus 1 pt.
5Other teams can STEAL if the spokesperson makes an error — buzz in first!
💡 TEACHER TIP: Write on board: ✅ "I suggest she exercise daily" ❌ "I suggest she exercises". The steal mechanic is the secret ingredient for drama!
EXAMPLE: "I recommend that he drink more water and that he get more sleep." = 2 bonus points! 🎉
